MySphera, founded in Valencia in 2012 by engineers who built one of Spain's first electronic health records, tracks patients, staff and equipment inside hospitals with a real-time location system. Its software uses that data to run operating theatres and emergency departments and to tell families where a patient is.

The European Innovation Council granted €1,810,550 towards a €2.59 million project, PATHMAKER, that ran from May 2022 to April 2024. According to the CORDIS report, it halved deployment times and let the company "handle twice as many projects with the same number of staff", and it forecast "sales of 40 million euros by 2028". In February 2026 the private equity firm ABE Capital Partners acquired a majority stake for its healthcare platform Mediance; according to the deal report, MySphera's revenue was €2.32 million in 2024 and "exceeded €3 million" in 2025.

Where MySphera Stands Today

MySphera's website says "more than 50 european hospitals are using our solutions" and that its first deployment was "the largest RTLS installation in Europe at the time". The register shows a capital increase of €356,229 in August 2025, bringing share capital to €1.38 million, and in March 2026 a change from a board of directors to a single administrator, Essentia Health Project SL, a Barcelona consulting and project management company founded in 2019. That change followed the sale: on 17 February 2026 Capital Riesgo reported that ABE Capital Partners had bought a majority stake to expand its healthcare platform Mediance, with the chief executive and other minority investors reinvesting, and with Swanlaab Venture Factory, Sabadell Venture Capital, Air Liquide's ALIAD and Wayra selling. The report says MySphera had been deployed in "over 60 projects across hospitals in Spain", that 290,000 patients had used its smart wristbands, and that it was profitable at EBITDA and net level by the end of 2024. The price was not disclosed.

The Technology: Designing a Patient's Path

PATHMAKER is a design tool for the pathways patients follow through a hospital. CORDIS reports it was used to design solutions for surgical blocks, emergency departments and endoscopy units, includes a "Demand Planner Designer" that can "optimize surgical block capacity by up to 15%", and pairs with a location system with "precision below the meter". At Saint-Joseph Hospital in Paris, which performs over 20,000 operations a year in 22 theatres, MySphera and Air Liquide equipped the ambulatory surgery unit, including screens and an app telling relatives a patient's status.

"Handle twice as many projects with the same number of staff."

PATHMAKER report, CORDIS

What the EIC Project Promised, and What CORDIS Shows

The project promised an "AI-powered visual assistive design IoT pathway platform" for fast, automated patient pathways. CORDIS reports the platform built, two peer-reviewed papers, an award at the European Healthcare Design Congress 2023 and a Value-Based Healthcare Prize finalist place in 2024. It does not give the number of hospitals using PATHMAKER.

  1. A pathway design platformDeliveredThree hospital settings.
  2. Faster deploymentDeliveredHalved, per CORDIS.
  3. Scientific validationDeliveredTwo papers.
  4. Sales growthNot shown€3M+ in 2025, vs €40M forecast.

What Has Happened Since the Award

The Money

The award was blended finance; we found no public record of an EIC Fund investment, and the EIC Fund is not among the investors named as selling in 2026. Before the sale MySphera was backed by Swanlaab, Sabadell Venture Capital, ALIAD and Wayra. The August 2025 capital increase added 35% to share capital. Its accounts are audited by Ernst & Young.

What cannot be checked

What ABE Capital paid, whether the EIC Fund ever invested, and how many hospitals use PATHMAKER itself are not public.

Why Europe Should Care

MySphera's tools aim to raise operating theatre capacity, by up to 15% according to CORDIS. The EIC funded a project that, by the company's account, made them faster to install; revenue grew to more than €3 million by 2025, and a private equity buyer saw enough in the business to take control.

What the project promised

A platform for fast, automated patient pathways, and €40M in sales by 2028.

What the record shows

The platform built, deployment halved, revenue above €3M in 2025, profitability and a sale to ABE Capital.

The Verdict

Delivered, profitable, sold

PATHMAKER met its technical goals, and MySphera became a profitable company that private equity bought in 2026. Its revenue of just over €3 million is still a fraction of the €40 million the project forecast for 2028.
