Lumoview, founded in 2019 by Bernhard Hoffschmidt, Arne Tiddens and Silvan Siegrist as a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), digitises the inside of buildings with a handheld scanner that captures a room in two seconds. Its software turns the data into floor plans, 3D models and thermal analyses for energy consultants, renovation planners and property owners, according to Lumoview. The company says it has scanned more than 800,000 square metres of building space and holds three granted patents. Its EIC Accelerator project, LumoGen1, receives an EU contribution of €2,498,125 towards a total cost of €3,568,750 and runs from April 2024 to December 2026, according to CORDIS.

In June 2025 Lumoview announced a €3 million seed round led by Greencode Ventures with IBB Ventures, WakeUp Capital, business angels and family offices, which with the €2.5 million EIC grant brought its available funding to more than €5.5 million, according to Lumoview. It had 34 employees at the time. The award was listed as blended finance, but the company's announcement mentions only the grant, and no EIC Fund investment has been announced. The register shows the company's seat moving to Berlin in May 2025 and its share capital rising from €39,625 to €46,105 in April 2026, according to North Data.

Where Lumoview Stands Now

Lumoview sells digital building surveys, laser scanning, drone photogrammetry, CAD models and building envelope models as services, and publishes case studies with the energy consultancy Enumion and the surveyor KIPS. In August 2026 it appeared in a ZDF WISO report on artificial intelligence in construction, according to Lumoview. It is organised into customer success, hardware, software and AI, sales and operations teams.

"Lumoview's founding team brings an exceptional combination of deep technical expertise and profound sector insight."

Ines Bergmann-Nolting, Managing Partner, Greencode Ventures, June 2025

The Technology: A Room in Two Seconds

Energy renovation needs accurate data on a building's structure and heat losses, which the CORDIS summary says does not exist for most EU buildings, and measuring by hand is slow and error-prone. Lumoview's patented handheld device combines imaging and sensor technology from DLR's solar energy research, and its algorithms turn each capture into structured building data automatically. The EIC project is to speed up commercialisation for industry professionals.

What the EIC Award Promised, and What the Record Shows

LumoGen1 runs until December 2026, so it is too early to judge it. The record shows a product on the market with named customers and private investors, but no public figures on sales, scanner units or how far the automation has progressed.

The Money

The EIC grant was 45% of the €5.5 million Lumoview announced in 2025. Its profit, revenue and balance sheet were not accessible in free sources; North Data shows no published financial figures for the company.

What Cannot Be Checked

Questions for the EIC

Whether the EIC Fund invested, who took part in the April 2026 capital increase, and what Lumoview's revenue and customer numbers are have not been published.

Why Europe Should Care

The CORDIS summary ties the project to the EU's Renovation Wave strategy, and every renovation starts with measuring what is there. A fast, automated survey would remove a bottleneck at the start of that process.

What the award promised

Faster commercialisation of automated building digitisation for energy renovation.

What the record shows

A funded 34-person company selling building scans, with no public sales figures.

The Verdict

On track, but opaque

Lumoview has a product, customers and investors. What the EIC's €2.5 million has produced will be clearer when the project ends in December 2026.

Lumoview and the EIC have not been asked for comment for this article. It is based entirely on public records and published statements, linked throughout.
