Ignion and the EIC Accelerator: Tiny Antennas, Real Growth

Ignion sells antenna components for connected devices that it says are about ten times smaller than conventional resonant antennas. The company, founded in 2015 in Sant Cugat del Vallès near Barcelona and previously named Fractus Antennas SL, calls them Virtual Antenna parts: non-resonant chips that can serve any frequency from 400 MHz to 10.6 GHz and protocols from Wi-Fi to 5G, according to its EIC project.

The European Innovation Council granted €1,961,067 towards TRIO++, a €2.8 million project from December 2022 to November 2024, to create one part that replaces three separate antennas and to automate antenna design. The final report says the multi-radio part "performs equal that three separate antenna boosters" and that a digital twin now delivers performance reports automatically. It also warned "it will take time until the revenue generated by the new product gets a remarkable volume". In December 2023 the EIC Fund and Barlon Capital invested equally in the company, according to Webcapitalriesgo. For 2024 Ignion reported a 50% rise in revenue and parts in more than 60 million devices.

Where Ignion Stands Now

At CES in January 2025 Ignion reported that in 2024 it had increased revenue by 50%, doubled the volume of Virtual Antenna products shipped, and that over 1,000 companies used its Oxion design platform, where AI and machine learning drove 95% of more than 3,000 designs. The commercial register shows capital increases in February 2025 and August 2026, taking share capital to €4.23 million, according to Infonif. Ernst & Young became its auditor in 2025.

The Technology: Three Radios, One Part

In its 2022 award announcement, Ignion cited 53 granted patents and a frequency range from 698 MHz to 10.6 GHz. The EIC project's TRIO part combines three radios in one component, and its simulation tools are meant to cut the number of physical prototypes engineers need.

What the EIC Project Promised, and What CORDIS Shows

TRIO++ promised a miniaturised multi-radio antenna and software that lets non-experts design antenna systems. Both were delivered, according to the report. The same report was candid that sales of the new part would take time to become significant, and it gives no revenue figure for it.

The Money

The December 2023 round was a capital increase in which the EIC Fund and Barlon Capital took equal minority stakes; the amount was not disclosed, and Galdana Ventures remained the majority shareholder. Ignion's accounts are audited and filed in Spain, but its revenue in euros is not publicly displayed.
