DeepOpinion, the product of Innsbruck-based Intelligent NLU GmbH, is a software platform for automating processes that depend on unstructured text and documents, such as emails, forms and claims. Its EIC project described a no-code platform built on "a proprietary ML engine created over 4 years of R&D", able to train AI models "for data sets in 100+ languages", with a skill builder and a workflow builder, according to CORDIS.

The European Innovation Council granted €1,950,095 towards a €2.79 million project from March 2023 to February 2025. The final report says it built a new automated machine learning framework and a drag-and-drop automation builder, and that the platform, combining language understanding and large language models, achieved "65%+ zero-touch processing". In June 2025 the company announced an €11 million Series A co-led by Red River West and Alpha Intelligence Capital, under its new name, Otera.

Where Otera Stands Now

Otera markets "autonomous AI agents for enterprise operations" in banking, insurance and shared services, according to its website. Its lead case study is CED, which it says moved claims resolution "from weeks to same-day across 600,000+ cases". It cites an HFS Research report on its work with Allianz Partners, a partnership with PwC Austria and an insureNXT innovators award in 2026. The OTERA name was filed as a trademark in 2026, register records show.

"600,000 annual cases are now processed in a matter of seconds - if it had been 6 million, that would have been exactly the same thing."

François Goffinet, CEO, CED, quoted by Otera

The Technology: Automated Machine Learning for Documents

The platform trains language models automatically on a customer's data, so business users without coding skills can build "AI skills" that read and classify documents, then chain them into end-to-end workflows. Otera now describes these as agents that make decisions under human-set guardrails, with an audit trail for each decision.

What the EIC Project Promised, and What CORDIS Shows

The project promised a no-code platform combining a skill builder and a flow builder for document-heavy automation. The final report documents both, plus the automated learning framework. The report also lists what the company still needed: marketing, market access, talent, capital and security compliance. It raised the capital soon after. CORDIS lists the project as closed.

The Money

Intelligent NLU's accounts are filed with the Austrian company register but available only through paid services, so its revenue and losses are not public. Register records show share capital rising from €35,000 in 2021 to €65,002 in 2025 as investors including Hoxton Ventures joined. The EIC award was grant first, and no EIC Fund investment has been announced.

What Cannot Be Checked

Questions for the EIC

How much revenue Otera earns, how many customers run its agents in production and whether the EIC Fund considered investing are not public.

Why Europe Should Care

Insurers faced a 10 to 50-fold surge in claims after floods in Austria, Otera says, and manual handling stretched resolution to about five weeks per case. The EIC funded a Tyrolean company that now sells automation for exactly that work. It is one of the clearer cases of an EIC grant followed by private money.

What the project promised

A no-code platform for end-to-end automation of text- and document-heavy processes.

What the record shows

The platform built, 65%+ zero-touch processing, an €11 million Series A and a rebrand to Otera.

The Verdict

Delivered and funded

DeepOpinion did what the EIC paid for and attracted venture money to scale. Whether Otera becomes a large business depends on revenue it does not publish.
