Avatar Medical, founded in Paris in 2020, makes software that converts CT and MRI scans into interactive, photorealistic 3D models for surgeons and patients. Its EIC project described "the first photorealistic XR viewer of 3D medical images", with cloud rendering and clinical applications for orthopaedic, cancer and vascular surgery, promising hospitals productivity gains "without investing in new equipment or personnel", according to CORDIS.
The European Innovation Council granted €2,492,262 towards a €3.56 million project from June 2023 to August 2025. The report says the company completed a shoulder replacement planning platform, "brAIn Shoulder Positioning", which won FDA clearance and "is now commercialized in the USA through a partnership with the Medtech implant manufacturer FX Shoulder", built a cloud architecture for demanding volume rendering, and developed a way to run its viewer over hospital networks. In April 2026 its main product, Avatar Medical Vision, received FDA 510(k) clearance, which the company says makes it the first software cleared for glasses-free 3D medical displays.

Where Avatar Medical Stands Now
In June 2026 the University of Miami Health System began deploying Eonis Vision, Avatar's software on Barco's glasses-free 3D display, in neurosurgery consultations, the first clinical installation. The Institut Curie in Paris has equipped its surgeons and radiologists with the software, according to the company's news page. In September 2026 Avatar Medical and Kyber were awarded up to €3.7 million under France 2030 to stream immersive 3D imaging anywhere in a hospital.

Surgeons usually rely on 2D slices or simplified 3D reconstructions that lack soft tissue and vessels, the report says. Avatar's volume rendering shows full-detail 3D anatomy that can be adjusted in real time, highlighting or hiding organs, without manual segmentation. It works on standard screens, VR headsets and autostereoscopic displays, and the company says it also helps explain procedures to patients.

The Money
Avatar Medical has not published its accounts; the French register shows 10 to 19 employees in 2022 and no financial summary, according to Pappers. The EIC award was grant first, and no EIC Fund investment has been announced. Its latest public funding is the France 2030 award shared with Kyber.
