Amadix, founded in Valladolid in 2010, sells PreveCol, a blood test that looks for signs of colorectal cancer and advanced precancerous lesions in people without symptoms. A positive result is followed by a colonoscopy.

The European Innovation Council granted €2,497,568 towards a €3.57 million project, listed in CORDIS as PreveCol, that ran from August 2022 to March 2025 and recruited 875 patients to validate the test. In January 2024 the US Food and Drug Administration gave PreveCol breakthrough device designation, and in February 2025 the European Investment Bank lent €15 million. Spanish register data compiled by Empresia put the company's annual sales under €500,000.

Where Amadix Stands Today

Amadix is running a trial, registered on ClinicalTrials.gov as NCT06703632, that evaluates PreveCol as a second-line method for early colorectal cancer detection. It started in January 2025 in Spain and Portugal, plans to enrol 4,538 people and had an estimated primary completion of November 2025; the registry still lists it as recruiting. The company's latest news, from March 2026, is its selection for ACCIÓN, a healthcare accelerator run by AstraZeneca, Wayra and Kunsen. The register shows four board members resigning and three new directors appointed in June 2025, and a small capital increase in August 2025.

The Technology: Cancer Signals in a Blood Sample

According to CORDIS, Amadix first developed ColoFast, a test based on micro-RNA biomarkers for people aged 50 to 85. PreveCol adds further biomarkers and artificial intelligence to identify risk factors and predict colorectal cancer in younger people. Amadix launched PreveCol in May 2023 with HM Hospitales in Spain, and later added MD Anderson Madrid and the CEMTRO clinic. The company says the test has "better diagnostic efficacy" than approved US screening tests, but its public pages give no sensitivity or specificity figures.

"To gain this recognition from the FDA is an important milestone for our company."

What the EIC Project Promised, and What CORDIS Shows

The project promised to validate an improved blood signature for early colorectal cancer detection, sell it in Europe and the USA, and projected revenues of €1,997 million through 2032. The CORDIS report lists 6,204 health records analysed, 638 patients in a molecular study and 237 in a cross-reactivity study, and "compliance with regulatory requirements to design and define both algorithm and kit". It gives no accuracy results and no sales.

What Has Happened Since the Award

The Money

The award was "grant first"; we found no EIC Fund investment. The EIB's €15 million is a loan guaranteed by InvestEU, not equity. In an interview with the EIC Scaling Club, Amadix said it was "currently raising a Series A financing round of 40 million euros to fund the U.S. clinical validation study for PreveCol", planned with Mayo Clinic. Amadix's investor page lists eight investors, including Inveready and Spain's state-backed Innvierte programme, without amounts. The register shows capital increases in 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025, with share capital reaching €2.56 million.

What cannot be checked

PreveCol's measured sensitivity and specificity, the results of the EIC-funded studies, how many tests have been sold and whether the €40 million Series A has closed are not public.

Why Europe Should Care

The EU has backed Amadix twice: with the EIC grant and with the EIB loan guaranteed by InvestEU. Both went to a test that is on sale in private clinics in Spain, whose accuracy figures appear neither in the company's announcements nor in the CORDIS report.

What the project promised

A validated blood test for Europe and the USA, with nearly €2 billion in revenue by 2032.

What the record shows

875 patients recruited, FDA breakthrough status, a €15M loan and sales under €500,000 a year.

The Verdict

Studies done, results unpublished

The EIC project ran its studies, and the FDA designation and EIB loan show outside confidence. But the accuracy figures have not been made public, and PreveCol's sales are still small, far from the €1,997 million the project projected.
