The EIC Pre-Accelerator 2027 provides €40 million for early-stage deep-tech companies in Horizon Europe widening countries. Eligible companies can request €500,000 to €1 million to progress from laboratory validation around TRL 4 toward a demonstrated and investment-ready innovation around TRL 6.

Deadlines / EIC Pre-Accelerator 2027

  • EIC Pre-Accelerator Widening via WIDERA
    • 1st cut-off 2027: November 18th 2027

Unlike the draft 2027 EIC calls, this opportunity is defined in the adopted Horizon Europe WIDERA Work Programme 2026–2027. Applicants must still verify the live Funding & Tenders topic and application documents before submission.

Who Can Apply?

The call targets a single eligible SME or small mid-cap established in a Horizon Europe widening country. The company must own or control the intellectual-property rights needed to develop the innovation and have a credible pathway from technical validation to market and investment readiness.

The Pre-Accelerator is not open to ordinary consulting projects, incremental product development or companies without a deep-tech innovation. The proposal must show high-impact market potential and a technology that still needs structured technical and commercial risk reduction before it can compete for larger investment.

Funding and Project Objectives

  • Total 2027 call budget: €40 million.
  • Grant per company: €500,000 to €1 million.
  • Target maturity: progress from approximately TRL 4 toward TRL 6.
  • Support period: up to two years.
  • Additional support: coaching, mentoring, networking and Business Acceleration Services.

The work plan should combine technology development with business, investor and market readiness. Appropriate activities can include prototype advancement, application-relevant validation, IP and freedom-to-operate work, regulatory planning, customer discovery, business-model testing and investment preparation.

What the Proposal Must Prove

  • The company is established in an eligible widening country and satisfies the company-size rules.
  • The innovation is genuinely deep tech and has reached the required starting maturity.
  • The applicant has the necessary IP rights and freedom to develop the proposed solution.
  • The target problem, users, market and competitive advantage are supported by evidence.
  • The technical and commercial milestones can be completed within the grant period.
  • The team can execute both technology development and the pathway to financing or market adoption.

Relationship to the EIC Accelerator

The Pre-Accelerator is designed as a preparation route, not an automatic Accelerator award. Successful beneficiaries receive access to Business Acceleration Services and can become eligible for an EIC Accelerator Fast Track submission following a project review during the second half of the project.

A company already at TRL 5 with a mature scale-up case should assess the EIC Accelerator 2027 directly. A company raising a major round with a qualifying lead investor should assess EIC STEP Scale Up 2027.

Preparation Priorities

  1. Confirm country, entity and TRL eligibility against the official call.
  2. Define measurable technical milestones leading to an application-relevant demonstration.
  3. Document IP ownership and freedom to operate.
  4. Collect customer, user and investor evidence before writing broad market claims.
  5. Connect every budget item to a specific technology or commercial-risk reduction milestone.
